Orillia Launches Snowplow Naming Contest

The City of Orillia has launched a public contest to name its fleet of snowplows, encouraging residents to get creative and help personalize winter road maintenance. The initiative, announced on May 26, 2026, aims to foster community spirit and raise awareness about snow removal services.

How the Contest Works

Residents can submit their name suggestions through the city's official website or social media channels until June 15, 2026. A committee will review entries and select finalists for a public vote. Winning names will be displayed on the plows throughout the winter season.

Mayor Don McIsaac stated, “We want to make snowplowing fun and engaging for everyone. This is a great opportunity for residents to leave their mark on our winter operations.”

Community Response

Early submissions include playful names like “Plowabunga,” “Snow Problem,” and “The Big Leplowski.” The city hopes the contest will also educate the public about plow routes and safety protocols.

Orillia joins other Canadian municipalities such as Edmonton and Toronto, which have held similar naming contests to boost civic pride. The city plans to announce the winning names in early July.
