One Dead, Two Injured in North York Shooting; 18th Homicide

Toronto Police say one person is dead and two others are in hospital with serious injuries following a Friday night shooting in North York. The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in the Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West area, according to police social media posts.

Officers located one victim at the scene who was pronounced dead. Two other individuals were found with gunshot wounds and transported to hospital with serious injuries. Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing and an update will be provided Saturday afternoon.

Second Fatal Shooting This Week

This is the city’s 18th homicide of the year and the second fatal shooting this week. On Monday afternoon, officers responded to a call for an unknown trouble in the Victoria Park Avenue and Highway 401 area. A man was found with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was identified Wednesday as 32-year-old Levon Byers of Toronto. Hakim El Mozazi, 28, of Toronto, has been charged with second-degree murder and four firearm offences.
