Man breaks into Guelph apartment, hits resident with hammer

Guelph police are investigating after a man broke into an apartment and struck a resident with a hammer. The incident occurred on July 8, 2026, at approximately 1:16 PM EDT, according to a news release from Waterloo Regional Police.

Officers responded to a report of a break-and-enter in progress at a residential building in the area of King Street East and Wellington Street in Guelph. Upon arrival, they found a male victim who had been struck with a hammer by an intruder.

Victim treated for non-life-threatening injuries

The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The suspect fled the area before officers arrived and remains at large.
