Machete Seized from Teen at Disruptive Grad Party

North Vancouver RCMP seized a machete from a teenager during a 'disruptive' grad party on Saturday, June 20, 2026. The incident occurred at a private residence in the 300-block of East 19th Street, according to a police statement released Tuesday.

Details of the Incident

Police were called to the scene around 10:30 p.m. following reports of a large, unruly gathering. Upon arrival, officers encountered approximately 50 to 60 young people, many of whom were intoxicated. During the response, a 17-year-old male was found in possession of a machete. The weapon was seized, and the teen was taken into custody without incident.

No injuries were reported, and the teen was later released into the care of his parents. Charges are pending further investigation, police said.

Police Response and Community Impact

"This was a potentially dangerous situation that could have escalated quickly," said Cpl. John Doe of the North Vancouver RCMP. "We are grateful that our officers were able to intervene and prevent any harm." The party was dispersed, and no other weapons were found.

Residents in the area expressed concern about the size and nature of the gathering. "It was really loud and out of control," said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. "I'm glad the police showed up when they did."

The incident highlights ongoing issues with underage drinking and large unsupervised parties during graduation season. Police remind parents to be vigilant and to discuss safety with their teens.
