Emergency responders in Lakeshore cut open a grain silo Thursday evening to rescue a worker trapped inside at Agris Co-operative Ltd., located on Lions Club Road near County Road 27. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m., prompting a coordinated response from Essex County OPP and other emergency services.
Rescue Operation Details
An employee at the co-op confirmed that holes were cut into the large silo to release grain, enabling rescuers to reach the trapped man. The worker was unable to free himself, and the public was asked to avoid the area during the operation. As of Friday morning, crews using a front loader were cleaning up a significant pile of grain that had spilled from one of the silos.
Worker Condition and Investigation
The condition of the worker remains unknown, and officials from Agris Co-operative could not be reached for comment. The company serves farmers and businesses across Chatham, Kent, Essex, Lambton, Elgin, and Middlesex counties. Emails to the Ministry of Labour seeking further information were unanswered Friday.
OPP West Region reported that officers with the Essex County OPP responded to the scene and were assisting other emergency services. The rescue operation concluded Thursday evening, but cleanup efforts continue Friday.
