In an unrelated event, Durham Regional Police reported a dramatic traffic stop in Ajax on Wednesday evening. Officers from the West Division pulled over a vehicle around 7:40 p.m. in the Audley Road and Kerrison Drive area after observing signs of driver impairment. When asked to exit the vehicle, the driver allegedly fled at high speed, prompting a pursuit that officers did not follow directly. Instead, police utilized their AIR1 helicopter to track the suspect, who was later picked up by another vehicle. A second traffic stop led to the arrest of the suspect, identified as Roy Palmer, a 38-year-old Toronto man.

During the arrest, officers seized a loaded firearm equipped with a laser sight and a prohibited extended magazine.
