The Beachburg Fair in Beachburg, Ontario, has implemented enhanced security measures this year in response to late-night incidents that occurred during previous editions of the event. Organizers say the changes are designed to protect visitors and maintain a safe environment.
Increased security presence
Additional security personnel have been deployed across the fairgrounds, particularly during evening hours when the majority of past disturbances took place. The fair has also introduced new protocols, including bag checks and restricted access to certain areas after dark. According to organizers, these steps were taken after reviewing feedback from attendees and local law enforcement.
“It helps to keep everybody safe,” said a fair spokesperson. The measures aim to address concerns raised by the community following a series of late-night altercations and unruly behavior in prior years.
Community and police collaboration
The Beachburg Fair worked closely with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to design the updated security plan. Police presence has been increased both on-site and in surrounding parking areas. Organizers emphasized that the fair remains a family-friendly event and that the new measures are proactive rather than reactive.
“We want everyone to have a good time, but safety comes first,” the spokesperson added. The fair runs from July 9 to 12, 2026, and expects thousands of visitors over the weekend.
Background of incidents
Previous fairs saw complaints about loud parties, fights, and property damage after the official closing hours. In 2025, several attendees reported feeling unsafe, prompting a review by the fair board. The new security enhancements include better lighting, more visible signage, and a dedicated incident response team.
Local businesses have expressed support for the changes. “It’s good to see them taking this seriously,” said a nearby shop owner. “The fair is a tradition here, and we want it to stay that way.”
