Edmonton police have issued an arrest warrant for Gene Jacobs, 61, in connection with random, unprovoked assaults that occurred at a McDonald's restaurant in Old Strathcona last month. Authorities continue to search for Jacobs and are also seeking to speak with the two victims and any witnesses.

Details of the Incident

According to a police news release issued Thursday, the assaults took place on May 11, 2026, at approximately 2:20 p.m. Two adult males were dining at a McDonald's located near 103 Street and 80 Avenue when another male patron allegedly assaulted each of them without provocation. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

The assault was reported to police the following day. Investigators obtained video footage from the restaurant and determined that the complainants and the suspect were not known to one another.

Police Appeal for Information

Police are now hoping to speak with the two men who were attacked, as well as anyone who witnessed the incidents. “Investigators are hoping to speak with the two complainants who were assaulted … as well as anyone who was in the restaurant at the time and witnessed the unprovoked attacks,” the news release stated.

Arrest Warrant Issued

An arrest warrant has been issued for Gene Jacobs, 61, on two counts of assault and breach of probation. Police continue to seek his whereabouts.
