Peel Regional Police demonstrated rapid response capabilities last week, apprehending four teenage suspects within minutes of an attempted armed robbery at a major Mississauga shopping centre.
Swift Police Action Thwarts Mall Incident
The incident unfolded on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at approximately 2:50 p.m. at Erin Mills Town Centre, located at Erin Mills Parkway and Eglinton Avenue. According to police, four individuals—all wearing masks and head-to-toe black clothing and armed with hammers—were spotted entering the mall.
Their movements were immediately detected by mall security personnel and an on-site paid-duty police officer, who initiated a pursuit. During the confrontation, security staff managed to apprehend one of the suspects directly inside the mall.
Coordinated Effort Leads to Quick Arrests
The three remaining suspects allegedly fled the scene in a stolen Honda CR-V. However, their escape was short-lived. Officers from the 11 Division Community Intervention and Response Team quickly located the vehicle.
In a coordinated maneuver, patrol units strategically boxed in the Honda to prevent a dangerous high-speed chase. The suspects then attempted to escape on foot, leading to a brief pursuit that ended with the arrest of all three remaining individuals.
Constable Tyler Bell-Morena stated in a video released by Peel police that the group is also linked to an earlier, unsuccessful robbery attempt in York Region that occurred just hours before the Mississauga incident. "Didn't work out for them either, but at least we caught them here in Peel," Bell-Morena remarked.
Charges and Aftermath
Fortunately, no injuries were reported and no property was stolen from the mall during the attempted robbery. The four accused, teenage boys aged between 14 and 17, now face a series of serious charges.
The charges include robbery, attempt to commit an indictable offence, possession of property obtained by crime, and two counts of wearing a disguise with intent. Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, their identities cannot be publicly released.
This efficient police operation highlights the effectiveness of coordinated responses between mall security and law enforcement in maintaining public safety in Peel Region's retail spaces.
