The York Regional Police Service Board has officially announced that Chief Jim MacSween will retire on June 26, 2026, marking the end of his six-year tenure as the head of the force. Chief MacSween assumed the role of Chief of Police on May 1, 2020, bringing with him extensive experience from various bureaus, including Criminal Investigations, Community Services, Training and Education, and the Hold-Up Unit. His leadership journey saw him command two police districts, Operational Command, and serve as deputy chief overseeing the Support Branch, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of law enforcement dynamics.
