Windsor police arrest suspect in violent NYE sex assault

Windsor police have taken a 32-year-old man into custody following a violent sexual assault that occurred in a city park on New Year's Eve. Authorities are now issuing a public warning that there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

Details of the New Year's Eve Assault

According to investigators, the incident began in the early hours of December 31. Police were called to the 3000 block of Seminole Street shortly after 6 a.m. after a report of a sexual assault.

The investigation revealed that the suspect and the female complainant first met near the intersection of Wyandotte Street East and Langlois Avenue just before 4 a.m. The suspect then drove the woman to a nearby park.

Police state that the interaction initially involved consensual sexual activity. However, the situation turned violent when the woman attempted to end the encounter. The suspect allegedly became aggressive, displayed a firearm, and made threats to kill her.

The victim managed to escape and flee to a nearby business, where emergency services were contacted.

Arrest and Charges Laid

The Windsor Police Service's Major Crimes Unit led the investigation. On Wednesday, January 7, officers located and arrested a suspect in the 1600 block of Alexis Road.

The 32-year-old man now faces a series of serious criminal charges:

  • Sexual assault with a weapon
  • Occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Forcible confinement
  • Uttering threats to cause death

Appeal for Potential Victims to Come Forward

Given the circumstances of the arrest, investigators believe there is a possibility that other individuals may have been victimized by the suspect.
