Windsor police have apprehended and charged a 44-year-old man in connection with a series of theft-related offences, culminating in a brief foot pursuit on the city's west side. The charges stem from an incident that occurred during the summer months.
Surveillance Footage Captures Summer Incident
The investigation began in late June after an incident at a commercial facility located in the 1500 block of Walker Road. According to police, surveillance footage was crucial to the case. The video showed a man entering the parking lot around 11:45 p.m. on the night in question.
Shortly after his arrival, a vehicle was stolen from the property and seen leaving the area. Police issued a warrant for the suspect's arrest following this investigation.
Second Alleged Crime and Suspect Identification
The investigation revealed that approximately 30 minutes after the initial theft, the same suspect was allegedly spotted entering a secure compound in the 2700 block of Central Avenue. It is alleged that he loaded stolen property into the previously taken vehicle at this location.
Officers successfully identified the suspect, who was reportedly out on a release order from custody for an unrelated matter at the time of the alleged offences.
Arrest Following Foot Chase
The suspect remained at large until November 27, when police located him in the area of Tecumseh Road West and Huron Church Road. Upon approach, the man fled on foot, leading to a brief chase. He was subsequently apprehended and taken into custody.
The 44-year-old Windsor man now faces a total of nine charges. The list includes:
- Five counts of failure to comply with a release order.
- One count of theft of a motor vehicle.
- One count of possession of break-in instruments.
- One count of break and enter.
- One count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The case highlights ongoing police efforts to address property crime in the city, particularly involving suspects who are already under court-ordered conditions.
