Two men, one from Ottawa and one from Montreal, are facing multiple fraud charges after allegedly attempting to purchase a vehicle and a crane with counterfeit money in East Hawkesbury township, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Incident Details
On Saturday, June 13, two individuals went to an address in East Hawkesbury township to buy a vehicle and a crane, the OPP stated in a news release on June 17. The victim suspected the money used in the transaction was counterfeit and contacted the Hawkesbury OPP detachment.
Following an investigation, police charged François Roger Fafa Ndam, 49, of Ottawa, and Christian-John Dhjarngbo, 46, of Montreal, with the following offenses:
- Personation with intent (identity fraud)
- Possession of an identity document
- Uttering counterfeit money
- Possessing counterfeit money
- Possessing counterfeit instruments
- Making counterfeit money
- Fraud over $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
Legal Proceedings
The accused were held for a bail hearing in Ottawa on June 14.
Police are urging anyone who believes they may have been involved in a similar incident to come forward.
