Seven Toronto Men Face Charges in 2024 Mississauga Home Invasion Homicide
Peel Regional Police have announced the arrests of seven Toronto men in connection with a violent 2024 home invasion that escalated into a homicide investigation. The incident, which occurred in Mississauga, Ontario, resulted in the death of a homeowner and has led to multiple serious charges against the suspects.
Violent Home Invasion Turns Deadly
On October 1, 2024, at approximately 3:40 a.m., police responded to reports of shots fired at a residence located near Central Parkway West and Confederation Parkway in Mississauga. According to investigators, four masked individuals forcibly entered the home and confronted the occupants, demanding money and valuables during the confrontation.
During the violent encounter, 55-year-old Ruo Zhou Wei, one of the homeowners, was shot. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The suspects fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Atlas vehicle, which was later identified by police during their investigation.
Complex Investigation Leads to Multiple Arrests
"What began as a violent home invasion quickly evolved into a complex homicide investigation," stated Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich in a media release. "Investigators from the homicide bureau worked tirelessly piecing together evidence, tracking suspects, and uncovering a wider network of individuals believed to be involved."
The extensive investigation spanned more than 80 kilometres and involved comprehensive canvassing efforts, detailed forensic analysis, and multiple judicial authorizations to identify suspects and others believed to be complicit in the crime. Police have confirmed that a firearm was seized during the investigation.
Charges Filed Against Seven Toronto Residents
On Monday, police reported that seven men from Toronto were arrested and are being held in custody pending bail hearings. The individuals face a variety of serious charges related to the incident:
- Sonam Wangchuk, 25, Muhammad Rahimullah, 21, and Tenzin Lama, 21 are all charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder using a firearm.
- Kang Lu, 69, Kwok Chik, 65, and Xi Chen, 64 are all charged with manslaughter.
- Tenzin Jungney, 21 faces multiple firearm-related charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, and possession of property obtained by crime.
Police Emphasize Community Safety and Investigation Resources
Deputy Chief Milinovich emphasized the importance of proper resources in solving serious crimes. "Ultimately, their efforts led to the seizure of a firearm and the arrest of seven men from Toronto who now face serious charges," he stated. "This investigation reflects the dedication of our officers and the critical support of our government partners in ensuring investigations like this are properly resourced and those responsible for horrific crimes are held accountable."
Milinovich also acknowledged assistance from the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario and the Ministry of the Solicitor General during the investigation. He noted that such crimes create profound and lasting trauma for affected families and undermine community safety. "Every resident deserves to feel safe and secure in their home," he concluded.
The arrests mark a significant development in a case that has drawn attention to violent crime in the Greater Toronto Area and the investigative efforts required to bring suspects to justice in complex homicide investigations.
