Peel Regional Police have announced an arrest and multiple charges following a brazen shooting at a Brampton business last summer. The incident, which involved gunfire directed at the establishment, led to a months-long investigation culminating in the seizure of an illegal firearm.

Shooting Incident and Arrest Details

According to police, the event occurred in the early hours of July 8, 2025. Two individuals arrived at a business located in the area of Rutherford Road South and Steeles Avenue East. One of the men fired multiple gunshots into the business before both fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.

Following an extensive investigation, officers executed a search warrant at a Toronto address on January 9, 2026. During the search, police allege they seized a loaded illegal handgun.

As a result, Tray Clarke, 26, of Toronto, now faces a series of serious charges. These include five firearm-related offences, as well as one count each of possession of property obtained by crime and mischief over $5,000.

Police Condemn Gun Violence

Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah issued a strong statement in connection with the arrest. "Residents and businesses should not have to live in fear of gun violence or intimidation," said Duraiappah. "This will not be tolerated in our communities. Thanks to the dedication and efforts of our officers, an illegal firearm has been removed from our streets, and the accused will be held accountable. As we say: Not in Peel."

Authorities are continuing to investigate and urge anyone with information to contact Peel Regional Police at 905-453-2121, extension 2133, or to provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

It is alleged that Omer Lifshitz, 49, of Toronto, approached a demonstrator, engaged in a verbal argument, and then assaulted the individual with a handheld speaker. Meanwhile, in Hamilton, police have charged a 14-year-old from Ottawa with public mischief in connection with a series of seven swatting incidents. Swatting involves making false emergency calls to trigger a large police response.

Hamilton Police responded to these hoax calls between December 2025 and January 2026. The false reports included serious allegations such as domestic violence, shootings, and homicides at residential addresses. After investigations confirmed the calls were fraudulent, detectives executed a search warrant in Ottawa, seizing electronic devices. The youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged.
