Three Charged in Scarborough Shooting; Toronto Homicide Probe

Three young men have been charged and a handgun seized following a shooting in Scarborough that occurred two months ago. Toronto Police responded to a call in the area of Kennedy Road and Antrim Crescent, north of Progress Avenue, around 10 p.m. on February 20. According to police, a group of men approached the victim's home and threatened him. When the victim refused to come out, one of the men was shot during the incident. Investigators identified three suspects, who were arrested last Monday. Omran Hamid, 19, of Toronto, faces charges including uttering threats, criminal harassment, and possession of a loaded restricted firearm. Anawar Ali, 20, of Toronto, is charged with criminal harassment and possession of a loaded restricted firearm. Yasser Al-As, 21, of Toronto, is also charged with criminal harassment and possession of a loaded restricted firearm. In a separate incident, a man was fatally shot in Toronto's west end on Friday night. Police responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Scarlettwood Road and Scarlettwood Court, north of Eglinton Avenue West, shortly after 10 p.m. Officers located a man who had been shot and performed life-saving measures before rushing him to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim was later pronounced dead. His name and age have not been released. Police have not provided suspect details, but the homicide unit is investigating. B.C. Man Arrested for 2025 Extortion-Related Shootings in Peel Region

A 23-year-old man from British Columbia has been arrested in connection with two extortion-related shootings that occurred in Peel Region 17 months ago. SIU Investigating Woman's Death at Oshawa Hospital

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is probing the death of a 23-year-old woman at Lakeridge Health Oshawa hospital. The incident began when Durham Regional Police received a call about a woman in crisis near Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road East in Oshawa. Officers apprehended her and took her to the hospital, where she was later released. Security then located the woman in the hospital's parking garage and alerted officers. Police searched for her and found her on the ground below. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Three SIU investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. A post-mortem examination was scheduled for Saturday to determine the cause of death.
