Windsor police have issued a public appeal for assistance in identifying a suspect connected to a serious case of arson that targeted a vehicle and damaged a home in Amherstburg earlier this month.
Early Morning Fire on Mullen Crescent
The incident occurred in the early hours of December 13, 2025. Police and fire crews were dispatched to the 200 block of Mullen Crescent shortly after 2:30 a.m. following reports of a fire.
Investigators quickly determined the blaze was intentionally set. According to police, a male suspect arrived in the area via a taxi, which dropped him off in the 300 block of Lavers Crescent. The individual then walked to a nearby property on Mullen Crescent.
Accelerant Used, Fire Spreads to Garage
At the residence, the suspect allegedly poured an accelerant onto a 2017 Ford Explorer before igniting it. The fire rapidly grew in intensity, causing significant secondary damage.
The flames spread to the home's attached garage and its contents, amplifying the destruction. After setting the fire, the suspect fled the scene on foot, running back to the waiting taxi, which then departed.
Significant Damage and Ongoing Investigation
Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire. However, the financial toll is substantial. Police estimate the total damage to the vehicle and the residence at approximately $105,000.
The suspect is described only as a male wearing all black clothing. A key piece of the puzzle—the taxi involved—has proven difficult to trace. Investigators report that the taxi's meter was not active during the incident, hindering identification through standard records.
Police noted a distinguishing feature of the taxi: it is believed to have had a spare tire or a missing hubcap on the front driver's side wheel.
The Windsor Police Service Arson Unit is leading the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information, including taxi drivers who may have been in the Amherstburg area around 2:30 a.m. on December 13, to come forward.
