Regina resident Chris Fahlman, 42, now faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection with a fatal highway shooting that claimed the life of 44-year-old Tanya Myers near Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
Updated Charges Filed in Court
During a brief appearance in Regina provincial court on Thursday, new charges were filed indicating Fahlman now faces second-degree murder alongside an additional charge of intentionally discharging a firearm while being reckless as to the life or safety of another person. The court also stayed previous charges brought against Fahlman, which included manslaughter, careless use of a firearm, carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, and occupying a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm inside.
Tragic Incident on Highway 39
The charges stem from a September 12, 2025 incident on Highway 39 near Weyburn where Tanya Myers was shot and killed while riding as a passenger in one of two vehicles struck by bullets. According to Saskatchewan RCMP, the shooting occurred while the vehicles were traveling along the highway, though specific information about how police identified and arrested Fahlman has not been publicly released.
Community Reaction and Family Statement
Weyburn Mayor Jeff Richards described the shooting incident as having shocked the community. Before Fahlman's arrest, Myers' family issued a heartfelt statement through police, pleading for accountability. "Please grow a conscience and take responsibility for your actions. Tanya deserves justice and her family deserves answers," read RCMP Supt. Joshua Graham during a virtual news conference in September.
The family remembered Myers as "an amazing energy healer and animal lover with a special fondness for cats," adding that they were "all in shock and disbelief" and that her loss left "a giant gaping hole in our lives and her cats lives." They emphasized that Myers had nothing to do with the circumstances of her death.
The court also removed several names from a previous non-contact order during Thursday's proceedings. It is anticipated that Fahlman will next appear in Weyburn court at a later date, though specific timing has not been announced.
