Saskatoon shooting death sentencing set for July

A man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old in Saskatoon is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

Tyler Wayne Pambrun, 30, appeared in Saskatoon provincial court this week, where his defense requested an adjournment for personal reasons. The sentencing hearing has been rescheduled to July 6.

Pambrun pleaded guilty on April 7 to manslaughter in connection with the death of Matthew Brabant, who was shot on May 17, 2025.

Details of the Incident

Brabant was shot at a motel in the 2000 block of Avenue B North around 5 a.m. He was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries. His killing was Saskatoon's third homicide of 2025.

Related Case

On May 21, Lawrence Opikokew, 27, was sentenced to 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter. After enhanced credit for time served on remand, he has 11.5 years remaining. He also received a lifetime firearms prohibition and was ordered to provide a DNA sample to the national data bank.

Pambrun's sentencing will proceed next month as the court considers the circumstances of the case.
