Redstone Community Grapples with Safety Concerns After Multiple Violent Incidents

A troubling sequence of violent events has unfolded in Calgary's northeast Redstone community over the past two weeks, leaving residents deeply concerned about their safety and questioning what is happening in their neighborhood. The incidents include a dramatic police raid, a targeted shooting, and two suspicious deaths, all occurring within walking distance of each other.

Thursday Morning Police Raid Creates Dramatic Scene

At approximately 8 a.m. on Thursday, residents reported a heavy police presence descending on a home along Redstone Park N.E. The operation involved armoured vehicles, uniformed officers, and personnel in civilian clothing wearing face coverings. The law enforcement presence spanned at least two residential blocks according to eyewitness accounts.

"It was crazy," said Redstone resident Shyann Hoad. "I come home from dropping my son off at daycare and our entire neighborhood is filled with police and S.W.A.T. The house was surrounded."

Hoad described hearing what sounded like a loud voice over a megaphone coming from about a block away. "They had about six young men detained up against a garage," she reported. "They were speaking into the megaphone to come out with hands up, and that they had a warrant. It seemed to be a raid of some sort."

Calgary Police Confirm Search Warrant Execution

Calgary Police Service confirmed on Friday that investigators, with assistance from the tactical unit, were executing a search warrant in Redstone. However, they declined to release further details about the operation.

"This warrant is part of an ongoing investigation, and as such, no further details are available at this time," CPS stated in an emailed response. Police did not indicate whether the search warrant was connected to other recent incidents in the area.

Recent Violent Incidents in Close Proximity

The Thursday raid represents just the latest in a series of alarming events that have shaken the Redstone community:

  • On January 28, two residents were found severely injured inside a nearby home and later died under suspicious circumstances
  • Days earlier, police were searching for two suspects after shots were fired into a home in the 100 block of Redstone Common N.E.
  • The targeted shooting left seven bullet holes in a family's home, occurring at approximately 10:30 p.m. on January 25

While police have not confirmed any direct links between these incidents, their close proximity and timing have created heightened anxiety among residents.

Residents Express Fear and Consider Relocation

The concentration of violent incidents has prompted some residents to reconsider their living situation in Redstone. "It's definitely becoming a place we don't want to raise our son, and we are currently searching for a new home," Hoad stated.

Shaheen Janmohamed, who has lived in Redstone for approximately 13 years with his wife and children, described the Thursday morning scene as unprecedented. "The scene outside my house Thursday morning was unlike anything I'd seen before," he said, noting what appeared to be "big military trucks" parked nearby.

The community remains on edge as residents await further information from authorities about these incidents and what they might mean for neighborhood safety moving forward.
