The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia has launched a probe into a police-related incident that occurred in Surrey on Christmas Day.

The incident took place in the 10800 block of 132 Street at the intersection of 108 Avenue and 132 Street in the Whalley neighborhood. On the morning of December 25, police tape cordoned off a section of the Chevron gas station located at that corner.
Visible from the scene were evidence markers and items of clothing on the ground, indicating a serious event had transpired. The Surrey Police Service confirmed it notified the provincial civilian police watchdog, the IIO, about the occurrence as per standard protocol for incidents involving police that result in serious harm or death.
