A York Regional Police officer is now facing a criminal charge following a startling incident where an SUV was allegedly driven onto a pedestrian walkway during a crowded community parade in Innisfil, Ontario.
Charges Laid Following November Parade Incident
The South Simcoe detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has charged a 53-year-old woman from Innisfil with dangerous operation of a vehicle. Authorities have confirmed the accused is a serving member of the York Regional Police. The charge stems from an event that took place during the Innisfil Santa Claus Parade on November 23, 2025.
The officer is scheduled to make her first court appearance on January 15, 2026. The OPP issued a press release on November 25 seeking witnesses to the event, which occurred between approximately 2:20 p.m. and 2:35 p.m. that Saturday.
Sequence of Events: From Parking Lot to Pedestrian Path
According to police allegations, the incident began in a Sobey's parking lot. A grey Audi SUV was reportedly denied access to the official parade route. The vehicle was then observed in the nearby Shoppers Drug Mart and Scotiabank Plaza on Innisfil Beach Road.
Investigators allege that when the driver found herself unable to exit the plaza due to the closed parade route, the vehicle jumped a curb and drove onto a pedestrian catwalk and trail located south of the shopping plaza. The SUV reportedly used this pedestrian pathway to leave the area, eventually exiting onto Jans Boulevard.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the vehicle's alleged path through an area typically reserved for foot traffic.
Police Emphasize Commitment to Public Safety
In a statement regarding the incident, the OPP underscored their dedication to safety during public gatherings. "Public safety is at the forefront of everything we do, especially during community events that attract large groups of spectators, including families and children," the statement read.
It continued, "The South Simcoe Police Service remains dedicated to protecting the public while supporting safe traffic flow throughout these celebrations." Police have obtained images of the vehicle involved in the incident.
The investigation remains open, and authorities are asking for the public's help. Anyone who witnessed the event or has information, including video footage, is urged to contact Sergeant Steve Black directly at steve.black@southsimcoepolice.ca or to provide an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
