Edmonton Police are urgently appealing for witnesses after one of their own cruisers struck a female pedestrian in a north central neighbourhood last month.
Details of the North Edmonton Collision
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on October 27 near the intersection of 97 Street and 115 Avenue. According to a police news release issued Monday, officers were responding to a service call and travelling southbound on 97 Street when their vehicle collided with a 29-year-old woman crossing the road.
Police confirmed the woman was not using a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident. Instead, she was crossing on the south side of 97 Street beneath a designated pedestrian overpass at 115 Avenue.
Emergency Response and Ongoing Investigation
The involved officers immediately stopped their vehicle, called for emergency medical services, and administered first aid to the injured pedestrian. Emergency crews transported the woman to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
As of the latest update, the woman remains hospitalized. The Edmonton Police Service has offered support to both her and her family through their crime and trauma-informed support services.
No police officers sustained injuries during the collision, and investigators have stated that speed was not considered a contributing factor in the incident.
