A 34-year-old man from Perth, Ontario, is in custody and facing a series of serious charges following an investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) into an incident of intimate partner violence.
Police Respond to Early Morning Incident
The Lanark County OPP detachment launched its investigation on Sunday, January 5, 2025, shortly after 7:30 a.m. Officers were called to a residence in Perth, but upon arrival, they discovered that an individual had already fled the scene on foot.
Canine Unit and ERT Assist in Arrest
To locate the suspect, police deployed an OPP canine unit along with members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT). The coordinated search proved successful, and a man was arrested a short time later, as confirmed in a police news release issued on Monday.
The accused, whose identity is being withheld to protect the victim, has been charged with multiple offences. The charges include:
- Assault causing bodily harm
- Two counts of uttering threats
- Mischief
- Assault
- Failure to comply with a probation order
- Cruelty to animals
Court Appearance and Custody
The man was held in custody pending a bail hearing. He was scheduled to appear before the court in Perth at a later date to answer to the charges.
