Ottawa police are actively seeking public assistance to gather additional information following the arrest and charging of a 34-year-old Ottawa man in connection with human trafficking offences. The charges relate to activities that allegedly began in May 2022 and continued through to the present month.
Investigation Details and Charges
The Ottawa Police Service's Human Trafficking Unit initiated an investigation in November 2025, which led to the arrest of Christopher Exume. The 34-year-old has been formally charged with multiple serious offences including trafficking in persons, procuring and advertising another person for sexual services, sexual assault, and sexual interference. He currently remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
Potential Additional Victims
In a public statement, police investigators expressed their belief that there may be other victims of human trafficking connected to this case. "Investigators believe that there are other victims of human trafficking related to this investigation," police officials stated in their release.
To assist potential victims in identifying the accused, police revealed that Exume is alleged to have used the aliases 'Z' and 'Zo' during the period in question. Authorities have taken the unusual step of publicly releasing a photograph of the accused to help with identification.
Support for Victims
The Human Trafficking Unit emphasized their commitment to supporting survivors regardless of their willingness to pursue criminal charges. "The Human Trafficking Unit will respect victims' wishes whether to pursue criminal charges," police confirmed, adding that they can offer resources and support to all survivors of human trafficking.
