A man was critically injured in a house fire in North York on Wednesday evening. Emergency crews responded to the blaze at a residential property in the area of Jane Street and Finch Avenue West.
Firefighters Respond Quickly
Toronto Fire Services received the call at approximately 7:30 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and rescued the man from inside the residence.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics confirmed the man was in critical condition at the time of transport.
Investigation Underway
The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been notified and is investigating the cause of the fire. Early indications suggest the blaze may have started in the kitchen area, but officials have not confirmed the origin.
Neighbors reported hearing a loud explosion before the fire broke out. One resident described seeing flames shooting from the windows of the home.
Police have cordoned off the area as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
No other injuries were reported. The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the displaced occupants.
