Ottawa Man Faces Firearms Charges After OPP-Led Raid
A 23-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with multiple offenses following a provincial police investigation into the unauthorized possession of firearms. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed search warrants in March, leading to the seizure of two 12-gauge shotguns, one of which had a sawed-off double barrel.
Details of the Investigation and Seizure
The OPP-led Provincial Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team initiated the investigation in February 2026. On March 10, search warrants were executed at two residences in Ottawa, with assistance from Ottawa police tactical officers and OPP members. During the operation, officers confiscated the two shotguns, along with ammunition and a cellphone.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
The accused, identified as Ryley Major, faces several charges, including:
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
- Two counts of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
Major was released after a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on April 23, 2026.
