Durham Regional Police have arrested and charged a 28-year-old man in connection with a disturbing series of daytime home invasions and sexual assaults that occurred in Oshawa on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
The Series of Alleged Incidents
According to police, the events began around 4:20 p.m. in the area of Simcoe Street South and Royal Street, near Olive Avenue. Investigators state that a man entered a home and exposed himself to the residents inside. He was reportedly startled by a family dog and fled the scene.
The same suspect is then alleged to have entered a second residence on the same street. Police say that when the female homeowner confronted him, he sexually assaulted her before fleeing again.
The man then proceeded to the area of Simcoe Street and Fairbanks Street, where he allegedly broke into a third home. While inside, police claim he sexually assaulted an elderly woman who was in her bed. He then fled the scene through a bedroom window.
Arrest and Charges Laid
Responding officers located a suspect matching the description and arrested him without incident. The accused has been identified as Mohamed Basil Lafir, 28, of no fixed address.
Lafir faces a series of serious charges, including:
- Three counts of breaking-and-entering
- One count of committing an indecent act
- One count of forcible confinement
- Two counts of sexual assault
He was held in custody for a bail hearing. Due to the nature of the crimes, investigators have released a photograph of the accused, citing concern that there may be other victims who have not yet come forward.
