Nationwide Manhunt Underway for Suspect in South Asian Extortion Racket
A nationwide search is currently in progress for 24-year-old Jagdeep Singh, who faces multiple charges in connection with an alleged extortion operation targeting members of the South Asian community across Canada. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have confirmed that two homes in Parkland County were fired upon, with victims threatened for sums in the "millions."
Extensive Investigation and Firearms Seizures
Corporal Mitch Rondeau of the Parkland County RCMP detailed the severity of the threats during a press conference at RCMP K Division in Edmonton, where seized firearms, magazines, and ammunition were displayed. The investigation, which began in the fall of 2025, involved collaboration with the Edmonton Police Service, other Alberta partners, and law enforcement agencies in British Columbia and Ontario.
Inspector Kevin McGillvray explained that the probe started on Halloween night with reports of shots fired at a home in Spring Meadow Estates, a rural subdivision near Big Lake in Parkland County. A second incident occurred on November 6, 2025, when another house in the same community was targeted. Police later determined that the victims were subjects of alleged extortion threats.
Suspect Details and Dangerous Status
Jagdeep Singh is described as 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, with black hair, and is considered dangerous. He is also wanted by the Canada Border Services Agency. In November, Singh's vehicle was stopped by police in Red Deer, where a firearm was discovered. Although Singh was released pending further investigation, the firearm was seized and sent to a lab for analysis.
The lab results linked the firearm to seven different shootings across Canada, though not to the Parkland incidents. However, a long gun seized in a subsequent search, traced back to Ontario, is "consistent" with the Parkland shootings, according to Rondeau.
Arrests and Broader Crime Network
The investigation led to the arrests of two other men in Edmonton on February 13, following searches of a home and vehicle. These individuals, while part of the same crime group, are not directly related to the Parkland extortion shootings. Rondeau emphasized that all suspects are associated with one another, with charges stemming from separate occurrences, indicating a widespread criminal network.
Rising Concern Over Extortion Rings
Rondeau expressed significant concern about the increase in extortion rings targeting South Asian communities nationwide. "Obviously, our focus was here in Parkland County and investigating the events we were faced with," he said. "But it's definitely concerning. We know what's happening across the country in other areas, so it's definitely something that we're alive to."
The RCMP continues to urge the public to provide any information that could assist in locating Jagdeep Singh, as the manhunt intensifies across Canada.
