Slender Man Attacker on the Run After Fleeing Group Home
Morgan Geyser, the Wisconsin woman convicted for the infamous 2014 Slender Man stabbing, is currently a fugitive from justice. Authorities report that Geyser cut off her court-ordered GPS monitoring bracelet and fled a group home on Saturday night, just months after her conditional release from a mental health facility.
Police Search and Public Warning
The Madison Police Department announced the escape on Sunday morning after being notified. In a public appeal on Facebook, the police released a recent security camera image of Geyser and urged citizens, “If you see her, please call 911.” She was last seen with an adult acquaintance, heightening the search efforts.
Geyser’s own attorney, Tony Cotton, posted a video on Instagram imploring her to turn herself in “immediately.” He also issued a stern warning that anyone providing her with assistance would face criminal prosecution.
A Look Back at the Chilling 2014 Attack
The case that brought Geyser to international notoriety occurred in 2014 when she and her friend, Anissa Weier, were all just 12 years old. The two lured their classmate, Payton Leutner, into a wooded area. In a brutal assault intended to appease the fictional online horror character Slender Man, Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times while Weier encouraged the act. The girls then left Leutner for dead.
Miraculously, Leutner managed to crawl out of the woods and was discovered and rescued by a passing bicyclist. Both Geyser and Weier later pleaded guilty to attempted homicide. However, the court found them not guilty due to mental illness and committed them to long-term psychiatric care.
Aftermath and Continued Impact
Anissa Weier was released to her father in 2019 under strict conditions, including continuous GPS tracking. Morgan Geyser’s path to release was longer, with a judge rejecting several previous attempts before granting her transfer to a group home earlier this year.
A spokesperson for the victim, Payton Leutner, confirmed they are aware of Geyser’s escape. “Payton and her family are safe and are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure their continued safety,” Steve Lyons told WMTV. In a 2019 interview with “20/20,” Leutner revealed that while she is not afraid of her attackers, she still sleeps with scissors under her pillow for a sense of security, a lasting testament to the trauma of the event.
