A man is in hospital with serious head injuries after an unprovoked attack in Montreal on Saturday night. Police responded to a call in the east end of the city, where the victim was found with severe trauma to his head, consistent with being beaten with a blunt object.
Details of the Incident
According to Montreal police, the attack occurred around 10 p.m. on June 20, 2026. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a trauma centre. His condition is described as serious but stable. Police believe the assault was unprovoked and are treating it as an attempted murder.
“This was a violent and random attack,” said police spokesperson Constable Jean-Pierre Bouchard. “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward.”
Investigation and Public Appeal
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and interviewing potential witnesses. No arrests have been made as of Sunday morning. The weapon used is believed to be a metal pipe or similar object. Police have not released a description of the suspect.
This incident adds to a recent spike in violent assaults in the city. According to Montreal police statistics, aggravated assaults have increased by 12% compared to the same period last year.
