Man Who Served Part of Sentence in NBA Player's Home Ordered to Jail

A man who was permitted to serve part of his conditional sentence at the Toronto residence of former NBA player Chris Boucher has been ordered to complete the remainder of his term behind bars after repeatedly violating his release conditions. Quebec Court Judge Thierry Nadon made the ruling on Thursday, stating that Maurice Jonathan Koud Ondon "is incapable of respecting his conditions."

Fraud Conviction and Conditional Sentence

On June 21, 2024, Maurice Jonathan Koud Ondon, now 29 years old, pleaded guilty to one count of fraud and was sentenced to two years less a day, which he was allowed to serve in the community under strict conditions. Koud Ondon admitted to being part of a network that defrauded over $700,000 from the Quebec government through a student loan and grant scheme, with his personal involvement amounting to $158,000.

Another individual charged in the same case, Jordyson Telfort, 31, received a four-year prison sentence last year. Koud Ondon's conditional sentence included residing at a fixed address and maintaining employment, which he fulfilled by living at the home of Chris Boucher, a basketball player who spent seven seasons with the Toronto Raptors from 2018 to 2025.

Repeated Breaches Lead to Incarceration

Last year, Koud Ondon was charged twice with breaching the conditions of his sentence. The first breach resulted in an extension of his conditional sentence, but the second breach, addressed in court on Thursday, led Judge Nadon to order him to serve the remaining time in jail, with the sentence set to expire in July.

Judge Nadon emphasized that evidence presented last week clearly demonstrated Koud Ondon's inability to comply with the terms of his release. "The accused did not seize the chance he was given," Nadon stated. "Unfortunately, the lenient sentence did not produce the desired effect."

Details of the Breaches

According to court proceedings, Koud Ondon violated his conditions on multiple occasions after moving back to Montreal. Specific breaches included:

  • Failing to answer phone calls from a probation officer during curfew checks, with Koud Ondon claiming twice that power outages prevented him from hearing the phone ring.
  • Not being present at his designated workplace, a gym, when authorities checked on him.
  • Missing a scheduled meeting with a probation officer on January 29.

Reports from La Presse indicated that Koud Ondon worked as Boucher's personal assistant and operated a company that cleaned houses for other Raptors players. As part of his sentence, he provided Boucher's home as his residence and place of employment, but his return to Montreal led to the series of violations that ultimately resulted in his incarceration.
