Brampton Lawyer Deepak Paradkar Granted $5.25M Bail in Ryan Wedding Drug Case
Lawyer in Wedding drug case granted $5.25M bail

An Ontario lawyer facing serious charges linked to an international drug-trafficking operation led by fugitive former Olympian Ryan Wedding has been released on a multi-million dollar bail. Deepak Paradkar, 62, was granted bail by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, ahead of a hearing that could see him extradited to the United States.

Multi-Million Dollar Surety and Strict Conditions

The court set Paradkar's bail at a $5,250,000 surety, a substantial sum reflecting the gravity of the accusations against him. Justice Peter Bawden issued the decision, which names the lawyer's wife and her cousin as sureties. This means they are financially responsible and must supervise Paradkar to ensure he follows all court-imposed conditions.

While specific bail conditions are still to be finalized, Paradkar had previously argued for release under terms that would include 24-hour house arrest. His proposed conditions stipulated he would only leave his home if accompanied by his wife or another approved relative. He also offered to surrender all electronic devices, with the sole exception of using his wife's cellphone under her direct supervision.

Allegations of Conspiracy and Witness Intimidation

The Brampton-based lawyer is accused of playing a significant role in the criminal network allegedly run by Ryan Wedding, the former Canadian Olympic snowboarder now labeled a global drug kingpin. U.S. authorities have charged Paradkar with conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to retaliate against a witness.

Specifically, the allegations state that Paradkar counseled Wedding to kill a witness who could testify against the organization. The evidence compiled by investigators includes testimony from cooperating witnesses, along with text messages and phone calls. The Attorney General's office argued this evidence was "so overwhelming" that it created a flight risk if Paradkar was released.

Health Concerns and Safety Arguments Influence Bail Decision

Justice Bawden's decision to grant bail cited Paradkar's health and age as contributing factors. The 62-year-old lawyer suffers from diabetes and has what the court described as a "serious cardiac history." The decision noted that his safety could not be assured in jail and that he would be in a "poor position to defend himself if attacked."

This perspective contrasted with arguments from a lawyer for the Department of Justice Canada, who contended that Paradkar's life would be in danger if released. The lawyer stated Paradkar was now seen as a "liability" to Wedding's network, implying a threat from his alleged former associates.

Law License Suspended and Pending Extradition

Paradkar, who has denied any wrongdoing, was arrested in November 2025 as part of a sweeping FBI investigation targeting Wedding's operation. His licence to practice law was suspended by the Law Society of Ontario in early December.

He now awaits an extradition hearing that could send him to the United States to face trial. If convicted on the charges there, he potentially faces a life sentence. Paradkar is one of several Canadians arrested last month for extradition to the U.S. in connection with this case.
