The investigation, which targeted street-level drug trafficking in the community, culminated on February 13th with the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Government Road West. What officers discovered inside revealed the substantial scope of the illegal operation.

Substantial Narcotics Haul

Police confiscated a diverse array of controlled substances, including:

  • Cocaine with an estimated street value of $78,000
  • Methamphetamine valued at approximately $26,000
  • Psilocybin (magic mushrooms) worth about $15,000
  • Diazepam pills valued at roughly $11,000

In addition to the narcotics, investigators seized over $4,000 in Canadian currency believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking activities.

Charges Laid Against Local Residents

Two individuals from Kirkland Lake now face serious criminal charges in connection with the bust:

Christopher Gauthier, 44, has been charged with:

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of psilocybin for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Melanie Prieur, 43, faces charges of:

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of psilocybin for the purpose of trafficking

Community Impact and Police Statement

The successful operation represents a significant disruption to the local drug trade that has been plaguing the community. Kirkland Lake OPP emphasized their ongoing commitment to combating the distribution of illegal substances that contribute to addiction and related criminal activities throughout the region.

Both accused parties were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake at a later date to answer to the charges against them.
