A Pennsylvania mother of three is being remembered as a hero after she was fatally shot while trying to intervene in an attack on a woman outside a bar. Jessica Hilliard, 34, was killed late Saturday night in the parking lot of Niki's Quick Six in Parks Township.
Incident Details
According to family and police, Hilliard and others rushed outside after a woman ran into the bar around 1 a.m., saying she had been assaulted by a man. The suspect, identified as David Dunmire, 36, was seen on video allegedly drawing a gun and firing seven times into the crowd as he attempted to flee. Hilliard was struck multiple times in the chest.
“A man was possibly putting his hands on a female and her and another friend tried to step in and stop it,” said Hailey Frawley, Hilliard’s sister. “And that individual who was going after the female is the person who ended up shooting.”
Victims and Charges
In addition to Hilliard, three others were wounded: a 24-year-old woman, a 25-year-old man, and a 34-year-old man. Dunmire was arrested at the scene and faces 16 charges, including four counts of criminal homicide.
“Our sister died a hero, and she is the kind of person who would always jump in to help anybody, regardless of if she knew them or not,” said Amanda Evacheck, another sister. “And she’s been like that her whole life.”
The community has rallied around the family, honoring Hilliard’s bravery. The investigation is ongoing.
