An 82-year-old Embrun resident is confronting serious criminal charges after provincial police concluded an investigation into historical sexual assaults that allegedly occurred over a decade ago.

Investigation Uncovers Alleged Crimes

The Russell County Ontario Provincial Police launched their investigation in September 2024 after receiving allegations concerning sexual assaults involving two separate victims. According to police reports, the incidents are believed to have taken place in 2005 and 2011 within the Embrun area and surrounding communities.

Multiple Charges Laid Against Senior

Following their extensive investigation, authorities have charged Maurice Lemieux, 82, of Embrun with multiple criminal offences under the Criminal Code of Canada. The charges include:

  • Three counts of sexual interference
  • Two counts of sexual exploitation
  • Two counts of sexual assault on a person under 16
  • One count of invitation to sexual touching on a person under 16

Lemieux appeared before a Justice of the Peace for a bail hearing and was subsequently released from custody under specific conditions.

Court Date Scheduled for 2026

The accused is scheduled to make his next court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in l'Orignal on January 7, 2026. Police continue to encourage anyone with information related to this case to come forward.
