Edmonton Man Faces Murder Charges After Louis Bull First Nation Shooting Incident

Alberta RCMP have arrested and charged a 27-year-old Edmonton man in connection with a violent double shooting on Louis Bull First Nation that resulted in one fatality and left another victim fighting for his life in critical condition.

Police Response to Midnight Shooting

Maskwacis RCMP responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on Louis Bull First Nation shortly after midnight on Wednesday, according to a police press release issued Thursday. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

The deceased victim has been identified as 23-year-old Zyon Littlepoplar, who was declared dead at the scene. The second victim, a 54-year-old man, was initially transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to another medical facility for emergency treatment. Police confirm he remains in critical but stable condition and is expected to survive his injuries.

Intensive Manhunt Leads to Arrest

Following the shooting, officers located an abandoned vehicle believed to be connected to the incident. The RCMP deployed multiple specialized units including Air Services, police dog teams, and the emergency response team while issuing shelter-in-place alerts to nearby residents as the search intensified.

"In just short a few hours we were able to successfully bring in appropriate resources, track down the suspects and arrest them safely, without anyone getting injured in the process," said Alberta RCMP Corp. Troy Savinkoff.

Police initially apprehended three individuals, but subsequent investigation by the Alberta RCMP major crimes unit determined that only one was directly involved in the shooting. The other two individuals were released without charges after being cleared of involvement.

Targeted Incident Between Acquaintances

Investigators have determined that the shooting was a targeted incident and that the suspect and both victims were known to each other prior to the violent encounter. This revelation suggests the violence was not random but stemmed from specific interpersonal conflicts.

The accused, identified as 27-year-old Dallas Daniel Lee of Edmonton, now faces serious criminal charges including second-degree murder and attempted murder. Lee was remanded into custody following his arrest and made his initial court appearance Thursday in Wetaskiwin.

The case continues to develop as Alberta RCMP conduct further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the relationships between those involved. Community members on Louis Bull First Nation have been offered support services as they process this traumatic event in their community.
