Coroner Launches Investigation into Two Fatalities
The BC Coroners Service has confirmed it is investigating two deaths in the community of Chemainus. The incident prompted a significant police response on the morning of Friday, November 22, 2025, leading to the cordoning off of a local forestry company's offices.
Police Secure Scene in Industrial Area
Law enforcement officials were dispatched to Hope Place, a road located in an industrial zone just north of Fuller Lake Arena. The area, an offshoot of Smiley Road, became the focal point of an active investigation. The entrance to a fenced lot containing a small, one-storey building was blocked with police tape.
Officers clad in white forensic suits were seen meticulously examining the property. The building is identified as the office of the Kaatza Group, a forestry company.
Company Responds, Operations Suspended
In response to the event, Mosaic Forest Management issued a public statement. The company revealed that an unspecified incident occurred overnight at an independent contractor's facility. As a result, Mosaic Forest Management has suspended its operations for the day.
The company's statement expressed sympathy, noting, "Our thoughts are with everyone impacted."
Holly Tally, a spokesperson for the BC Coroners Service, publicly confirmed the two deaths. She stated that no further information could be released at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. The RCMP has not yet provided an immediate comment on the situation.
