In a dramatic downtown operation, Calgary Police Service officers have successfully apprehended a prolific offender who was wanted on twenty-five outstanding warrants, culminating a months-long investigation that involved coordinated efforts across multiple law enforcement agencies.
Balcony Descent Foils Fleeing Suspect
According to authorities, the arrest occurred when thirty-year-old Brandon Lane Tallman attempted to evade capture by climbing down the balconies of a residence located in the 300 block of Third Street Southeast. Police had contained the East Village building to facilitate the arrest after observing Tallman breaching his release conditions earlier this month.
"The suspect attempted to flee by climbing down the balconies of the building, but was arrested and taken into custody," stated Calgary police in their official news release issued Wednesday.
Complex Investigation Spanning Months
The arrest represents the culmination of an extensive investigation that began in summer 2025. Law enforcement officials had been pursuing Tallman for various offences including firearms-related crimes and drug trafficking violations, after he failed to comply with release conditions and did not appear in court as required.
"Over the next several months, investigators utilized investigative techniques and coordinated with several areas across the Service and our partners with the Alberta Sheriffs Fugitive Apprehension Sheriffs Support Team to try and track the suspect," explained the police statement.
Multiple Charges and Seized Evidence
Following the arrest, officers conducted a search of Tallman's vehicle, resulting in the seizure of a folding combat knife. The suspect now faces more than thirty criminal charges dating back to 2023, with new counts including resisting arrest and five additional failures to comply with release orders.
His extensive list of outstanding warrants encompasses serious offences such as:
- Production of a controlled substance
- Possession of a controlled substance for trafficking purposes
- Possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000
- Trafficking of a controlled substance
- Possession of an unauthorized firearm with ammunition
- Possessing a firearm with altered serial numbers while prohibited
Previous Criminal History
According to earlier police records, Tallman had previously been charged with trafficking and drug possession in 2023 after allegedly selling drugs to an individual who subsequently suffered a fatal overdose. His prior warrants also include charges for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, and failure to attend court proceedings.
The additional weapons charges stem from allegations that Tallman possessed firearms despite being legally prohibited from doing so, with specific counts related to unauthorized firearms and weapons with defaced serial numbers.
Court Appearance and Custody
Following his dramatic arrest, Tallman was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, February 25. The successful apprehension highlights the ongoing efforts of Calgary law enforcement to track down individuals with multiple outstanding warrants who pose significant public safety concerns.
The coordinated operation between Calgary Police Service and the Alberta Sheriffs Fugitive Apprehension Sheriffs Support Team demonstrates the multi-agency approach required to locate and apprehend suspects who actively evade law enforcement through various means, including dramatic escape attempts like the balcony descent witnessed in this case.
