Durham Regional Police have charged a 41-year-old Oshawa man after a female bystander was assaulted while attempting to intervene in a physical altercation on Saturday. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. in the area of King and Simcoe Streets, where a male suspect was allegedly involved in a fight with another male over a cellphone.
Suspect Brandished Knife, Assaulted Bystander
According to police, during the altercation, the male suspect allegedly brandished a knife and assaulted a female bystander when she tried to stop the fight. Several other individuals intervened and held the suspect until officers arrived. The victim sustained minor injuries.
Faraz Mubashar has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, and failure to comply with a release order. Separate Brick Attack in Toronto
In a related incident, Toronto Police have charged Zane William Bishop, 40, of Toronto, with aggravated assault following his arrest on July 2. Police responded to an assault call on June 28 at 10:18 a.m. in the Danforth-Broadview Avenues area. It is alleged that on June 27 around 4:15 a.m., the suspect and victim were waiting for a streetcar near Danforth and Broadview when the suspect found a brick and assaulted the victim. The suspect and victim boarded the streetcar and exchanged words. The victim later went to a hospital and called police.

Hamilton Mountain Shooting Under Investigation
Hamilton Police are seeking public assistance after a targeted shooting at a residence in the area of Rymal Road East and Atessa Drive on Tuesday shortly after 4:30 a.m. No injuries were reported, but damage was limited to a parked vehicle in the driveway and the residence. A neighbouring residence was also struck by a stray bullet.
Police are trying to identify a white or light-coloured vehicle seen leaving the area toward Rymal following the shooting. Residents are asked to review home surveillance footage between 4:30 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday. OPP Canada Day Blitz Results in Thousands of Charges
During the Canada Day holiday week, Ontario Provincial Police laid over 19,133 traffic and marine charges, according to preliminary data. This included 8,603 speeding charges, 1,454 seatbelt charges, 412 impaired driving charges, 311 stunt-driving charges, 243 distracted driving charges, 49 helmet charges, and 11 marine safety equipment charges.
