Brampton Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges After Double Stabbing

A 46-year-old man is facing two counts of attempted murder following a violent double stabbing in Brampton on Thursday night. The incident left two women in life-threatening condition, with both victims rushed to a trauma center for emergency medical treatment.

Police Respond to Late-Night Emergency Call

Peel Regional Police were dispatched to a residence near Cherrytree Drive and Ray Lawson Boulevard around 10:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered two female victims who had sustained serious stab wounds. The women, aged in their 50s and 70s, were immediately transported to a trauma center, where they remain in critical but stable condition.

Laurie McCann, a media officer for Peel Regional Police, provided details at the scene on Friday morning. "I can tell you that an altercation occurred inside the home and two women were stabbed," McCann stated. She emphasized that while the victims are listed in life-threatening condition, their status is currently somewhat stable, a term she acknowledged as unusual but accurate in this context.

Suspect Apprehended After Fleeing the Scene

The male suspect fled the area in a vehicle shortly after the incident but was apprehended by police a short distance away. McCann confirmed that the vehicle was not stolen but did not belong to the suspect. The 46-year-old man is now in custody and faces serious charges related to the attack.

Authorities have indicated that the victims and the suspect are related, though specific details have been withheld to protect the family's privacy. McCann noted that it is too early to determine if this was a case of intimate partner violence, but suggested there is a good chance it is not. The weapon used in the stabbing was recovered at the scene, and no other suspects are being sought.

No Threat to Public Safety, Investigation Ongoing

Police have assured the public that this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to community safety. No officers were injured during the response, and there are no additional injuries reported. It remains unclear if other individuals, including children, were present in the home at the time of the stabbing, though McCann believes the initial call to police was made by someone inside the residence.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to piece together the events leading up to the violent altercation. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
