Brampton Kidnapping Investigation Results in Firearm Seizure and Charges
Two residents of Brampton, both aged 27, are now facing serious charges including kidnapping and firearm-related offenses following a detailed police investigation. The case unfolded after a distressing call was made to authorities on November 6, 2025, reporting the abduction of a close friend. According to Peel Regional Police, the kidnapper demanded a ransom of $200,000, threatening to harm the victim if the payment was not provided promptly.
Victim Found Safe, Firearm Recovered
Through coordinated efforts, investigators successfully located the victim, who was found safe and unharmed. During the operation, one of the accused was arrested at the scene, and a .45 calibre firearm was allegedly recovered by police. Further evidence was uncovered on February 13 when two criminal search warrants were executed in Brampton. At the scene, police seized a loaded firearm magazine and an unloaded rifle magazine, adding to the evidence against the suspects.
Harkirat Singh and Amritpal Singh have been charged with multiple offenses, including kidnapping while using a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, and possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm. Additionally, Amritpal Singh faces an extra charge for possession of a prohibited device or ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized.
Police have also issued an arrest warrant for a third suspect, Hasanpreet Singh, aged 28, who is wanted on similar charges. Authorities have not disclosed whether any of the accused are related to each other.

Deputy Chief Marc Andrews commended the hard work and dedication of the officers involved, stating in a release, "This investigation highlights the hard work and dedication of our officers and investigators. Through their coordinated and persistent efforts, they removed an illegal firearm from our streets and intervened in time to protect a victim from harm."

Toronto Police are searching for a man following an assault in the Danforth and Glebemount Avenues area on Tuesday night. Officers responded to a call shortly after 11:30 p.m. after a verbal argument inside an establishment escalated outside, where the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim. The victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.
The suspect is described as approximately 35 to 40 years old, 6 feet tall, and 160 pounds with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a black long sleeve shirt, a black jacket with fur on the hood, dark blue jeans, dark-coloured boots, and a green "Under Armour" toque. Police believe he may go by the name "Russell."
Scarborough Theft and Fraud Case
A 38-year-old woman, Mirabela Ene of Toronto, is wanted for allegedly assaulting a man in Scarborough on Tuesday and stealing his wallet. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the Victoria Park Avenue and St. Clair Avenue East area. According to police, the victim was walking on the sidewalk when the suspect approached in a dark-coloured SUV, pushed him into the passenger side, and drove to a parking lot where she forced a ring on him and stole his wallet. After letting him out in another parking lot, she fled and allegedly used his financial cards to make a purchase.
Ene is described as 5-foot-1 with a heavy build and black hair. She faces charges of forcible confinement, assault, and theft and fraud under $5,000.
Ajax Drugstore Robbery
Durham Regional Police are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery at a Shoppers Drug Mart in Ajax on Sunday night. Three masked males entered the store near Salem Road North and Taunton Road East, smashed display cases, and fled on foot with high-end perfumes. No injuries were reported. The suspects are all described as between 20 and 30 years old, wearing black masks, coats, pants, and shoes, with one identified as Black and another as white.
York Region Jewelry Distraction Thefts
York Regional Police have issued an alert about jewelry distraction thefts in Markham, warning that seniors are often targeted. In incidents this week, suspects in a grey Honda sedan approached victims in grocery store parking lots, engaging them in conversation while swapping real jewelry for fake gold items before fleeing. Police advise the public to be cautious of strangers attempting to engage in conversation and intrude on personal space.
