Montreal police are actively investigating a deliberate and persistent arson attack on a vehicle in Beaconsfield, which unfolded in two distinct acts early Friday morning. The incident highlights a concerning level of determination by the perpetrators.
A Failed First Attempt
The sequence of events began shortly after midnight. At approximately 12:30 a.m., individuals targeted a car parked in the driveway of a residence on Westcroft Road near Elm Avenue. Their initial effort to set the vehicle ablaze was unsuccessful. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a broken window on the car and found flammable materials nearby, but no fire had taken hold.
Persistent Perpetrators Return
Undeterred, the suspects returned to the very same location more than three hours later. At 3:45 a.m., they made a second attempt and this time succeeded in igniting the vehicle. The Montreal police service confirmed that a nearby surveillance camera captured images of at least one suspect fleeing the scene following this second, successful arson attempt.
Investigation Ongoing, No Further Damage
Montreal firefighters were called to extinguish the flames. Authorities reported that the fire was contained to the vehicle and caused no damage to the nearby residence. Fortunately, there were no injuries. The charred vehicle was subsequently towed away from the Beaconsfield property for further forensic analysis as the police investigation continues.
The brazen nature of the crime, with perpetrators returning to complete the act after their first failure, is a key focus for investigators seeking to identify and apprehend those responsible.
