B.C. Killer Tanner Fox Adds Another Homicide to His Bloody Criminal Record
Tanner Fox, a 25-year-old convicted killer from British Columbia, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the March 2022 shooting death of Chad Colivas, aged 41, during a botched break-and-enter. This latest conviction adds another violent chapter to Fox's extensive criminal history, highlighting his repeated failures in evading justice.
Details of the Manslaughter Case
Fox was initially charged with second-degree murder for the death of Colivas but ultimately pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. The incident occurred when Fox and an accomplice, Laetitia Acera, aged 32, attempted a break-in at Colivas's home in Chilliwack, B.C. They believed the residence contained drugs, money, and jewelry.
According to court proceedings, Fox entered the home through an unlocked door while armed with a loaded 9-mm handgun. When Colivas's nephew returned and discovered the intrusion, he alerted his grandmother, who began screaming. This drew Colivas into the room, where Fox, startled, turned and shot him three times. Prosecutors emphasized that Colivas was unarmed and did not provoke the attack.
Fox's Ongoing Incarceration and Prior Convictions
Fox is currently serving a life sentence with no parole eligibility for 20 years after pleading guilty in January 2025 to second-degree murder for the killing of businessman Ripudaman Singh Malik in Surrey, B.C. In that case, Fox and another man, Jose Lopez, shot Malik outside a business complex in July 2022.
Additionally, Fox has a prior conviction for stabbing a 17-year-old boy during a parking lot confrontation in Abbotsford, B.C., in July 2020, for which he served 119 days in jail and received two years of probation.
Investigation and Legal Outcomes
Detectives linked Fox and Acera to the Colivas homicide through text messages, cellphone and GPS data, surveillance video, and DNA evidence. Although police recovered two guns from Fox's home, neither was used in the murder. Acera was charged with manslaughter, but the charge was stayed in April 2025 when she pleaded guilty to break-and-enter, receiving a 14-month jail term and two years of probation.
Fox is scheduled to be sentenced for the manslaughter conviction on June 19, 2026. This case underscores the ongoing challenges in addressing violent crime and the judicial processes involved in such high-profile incidents.
