An autopsy has officially confirmed that the death of a 26-year-old man discovered earlier this week in north Edmonton was a homicide. The Edmonton Police Service reported that Mohammed Omar, aged 26, succumbed to gunshot wounds after his body was found in the Calder neighbourhood on Monday evening.

Police Response and Investigation Details

Officers from the Edmonton Police Service's northwest branch patrol responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 125 Street and 130 Avenue at approximately 9:20 p.m. on March 16, 2026. Upon arrival, they located a deceased man in a nearby greenspace. The autopsy, completed by the Edmonton Medical Examiner's Office on March 18, determined that Omar died from gunshot wounds, leading to the ruling of homicide as the manner of death.

Investigators are actively seeking dashcam, doorbell camera, or trail camera footage related to the incident. Police are asking anyone with footage recorded between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the vicinity of 125 Street and 130 Avenue to come forward. Additionally, detectives are looking for footage captured between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the area of 97 Street/Highway 28 to Highway 37, as well as near Range Roads 244, 551, 551A, and 250.

Authorities are particularly interested in images that may show a grey 2017 Mazda CX-5 travelling alone or alongside another vehicle on those routes. This vehicle is considered a significant piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.
