An Alberta man has been charged after police discovered more than 500,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse on his electronic devices. The arrest was made following an investigation by the Calgary Police Service's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit, which received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Details of the Investigation
The suspect, a 39-year-old resident of Calgary, was taken into custody on June 2, 2026. Authorities executed a search warrant at his residence, seizing multiple computers, hard drives, and other storage media. Forensic analysis revealed a massive collection of child exploitation material, including both images and videos depicting the abuse of minors.
Police stated that the volume of material is among the largest ever seized in Alberta. The accused has been charged with possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography, and making available child pornography. He was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on July 15, 2026.
Community Impact and Police Response
Staff Sergeant Trent Buck of the ICE unit emphasized the severity of the case, noting that each image represents a real child victim. He urged parents to monitor their children's online activities and report any suspicious behavior. The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to identify any potential victims depicted in the material.
This case underscores the persistent threat of online child exploitation and the importance of international cooperation in combating such crimes. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children plays a key role in alerting law enforcement agencies worldwide.
The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Calgary Police Service encourages anyone with information about online child exploitation to contact the ICE unit or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
