Ottawa police have arrested 11 individuals as part of an investigation into the demand for underage sex work in the city, authorities announced Wednesday.
Investigation Details
The operation, led by the Ottawa Police Service's vice unit, targeted those seeking to purchase sexual services from minors. Police did not release the names of those arrested, but confirmed that charges include obtaining sexual services for consideration from a person under 18 and related offenses.
“This investigation sends a clear message that exploiting children for sex will not be tolerated in our community,” said Ottawa Police Chief Eric Stubbs in a statement. “We are committed to protecting our most vulnerable and holding offenders accountable.”
Community Impact
Local advocacy groups praised the police action, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to combat child exploitation. “Every arrest is a step toward justice for survivors,” said Sarah Thompson, executive director of the Ottawa Coalition to End Human Trafficking. “But we must also invest in support services for victims.”
The investigation is part of a broader initiative by Ottawa police to address human trafficking and sexual exploitation in the region. Authorities urge anyone with information about underage sex work to come forward.
