What could have been a tragedy turned into an act of generosity at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner. WHCA President Weijia Jiang announced Monday that the uneaten meals from Saturday's event at the Washington Hilton were frozen and given to those in need.
Donation of Uneaten Meals
“The Hilton donated the ~2600 dinners that went unserved at WHCD,” the CBS correspondent wrote on X. “They freeze dried the steak and lobster for longer shelf life before giving them to 2 shelters for abused women and children.” She added, “HUGE thank you to the staff that worked through the night under terrible circumstances.”
Security Incident Details
A gunman, now charged with attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump, breached a checkpoint near the ballroom and shot a Secret Service agent in his bulletproof vest. He was apprehended while security personnel evacuated the president and several Cabinet members from the dining room.
In an odd moment amid the chaos, CAA agent Michael Glantz was seen eating his salad. “First of all, I have a bad back. I couldn’t get on the floor, and if I did get on the floor, they’d have to bring in people to get me off the floor,” he explained. “And No. 2, I’m a hygiene freak. There was no freaking way I was getting in my new tux on the dirty Hilton floor. It was not happening.”
Menu and Aftermath
The menu included prime Chateaubriand and Maine lobster with whipped potato gratin and sherry-braised carrots, plus grand opera cake for dessert. As for beverages, at least one person was seen allegedly taking the wine.
