Three Saskatchewan First Nations have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to tackle the drug crisis affecting Indigenous communities. The agreement was announced on May 12, 2026, by Chiefs Mark Fox of Piapot First Nation, Melissa Tavita of Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation, and Fabian Ironeagle of Pasqua First Nation.
Collaborative approach to addiction
The MOU aims to create a unified strategy to combat drug abuse, focusing on prevention, treatment, and enforcement. Chief Fox emphasized the need for community-led solutions, stating that the crisis requires immediate and coordinated action. The chiefs plan to work with provincial and federal governments to secure funding and resources.
