WSJ Editorial Board Slams Trump's $1.7 Billion Fund as 'Rotten'
WSJ: Trump's $1.7B Fund 'Rotten'

The Wall Street Journal editorial board has issued a blunt verdict on the proposed $1.7 billion so-called 'anti-weaponization fund' tied to Donald Trump, labeling it 'rotten.'

Details of the Fund

The proposed fund, backed by the Justice Department, is part of a deal for Trump to drop a $10 billion lawsuit over the leak of his tax information. It would compensate individuals who claim unfair targeting by the federal government. Critics, however, warn it could function as a political slush fund.

Editorial Board's Concerns

In an essay published Tuesday, the newspaper's conservative editorial board, which has occasionally criticized Trump since his return to office, described the fund as 'an astounding precedent.' It argued that 'if it proceeds, it is sure to become a highlight reel of Trump Administration payments to Mr. Trump’s friends and allies.' The board also warned of potential political fallout, stating, 'Imagine the fun Democrats will have documenting it all between now and 2028 as the worst kind of Washington political payoff.'

Additional Warnings

Also on Tuesday, the Rupert Murdoch-owned publication's editorial board cautioned that Trump may be repeating a mistake from five years ago that contributed to Republicans losing control of the Senate.
